FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
IS215VCMIH2 is a VME Bus Master Controller Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VI Series used in gas turbine control systems. The VCMI serves as both the communication interface to the system control network, also known as IONet and the interface for communication between the controller and I/O boards. Additionally, VCMI handles the IDs for all the boards in the rack and their corresponding terminal boards as the VME bus master in the control and I/O racks. The controller and I/O processor boards can communicate with each other in both directions thanks to the VCMI board. Other system elements, like an operator interface or PLC, are communicated using the controller's Ethernet port. The controller Genius port can be used to connect additional PLC I/O to the system. The system shown in the accompanying figure is an example of one. The system employs a low voltage variant of the common VME rack power supply and is powered by 24 V dc.

Three simplex system setups using the VCMI with local and distant I/O are shown in the accompanying figure. Each I/O rack has its own VCMI board, and many I/O racks can be connected to IONet. The signal conditioning on DIN-type terminal boards is always the same as on T-type terminal boards, and the mentioned I/O specifications are applicable. However, the boards do not support TMR, and there are differences in the number of inputs and outputs as well as the grounding rules. Space is conserved by using high-density Euro-Block terminal blocks that are permanently mounted. The terminals on the blocks can accommodate up to two #14 wires or one #12 wire. The most common wire size is #18 AWG.

Two sizes of TMR systems are depicted in the accompanying figure. In the first illustration, a tiny system, all of the I/O is put in the VME control rack, eliminating the need for any remote I/O racks. The VCMI has three IONet ports, with one for each of the three channels (R, S, and T). The larger system with distant I/O racks in the second scenario. Although many I/O racks are supported by one IONet, only one rack is displayed here. Regarding I/O boards and points, all I/O channels (R, S, and T) are identical.

DIAGNOSTICS:
Monitoring and warning systems are in place for the internal +5 V, 12 V, 15 V, and 28 V power supply buses. Except for the 28 V supply, which has a 5.5% alarm setting, the alarm settings are customizable and often set at 3.5%. The power distribution module (PDM), connected through J301, has its diagnostic signals checked as well. These include the P28A and PCOM for external monitor circuits, two differential 5V dc analog inputs, ground fault and over/under voltage on the P125 V bus, and digital inputs.
INSTALLATION:
The controller and a VCMI are the two components that make up a control module. Three different types of racks are available, including the GE Fanuc integrator's rack displayed in the accompanying figure and the two Mark VI rack sizes displayed in the section titled "VCMI - Bus Master Controller." Only standalone modules with remote I/O are used in the shorter GE Fanuc rack. Longer Mark VI racks that support both local and remote I/O are available. A cooling fan is positioned above or below the controller depending on which rack is being utilized. A VDSK board is also necessary for the stand-alone control module used with a GE Fanuc integrator's rack in order to provide fan power and identify the rack through an ID connection.
